Why did I create Substance Of Light®?
It all started in 2021 , when my father was diagnosed with skin cancer for the third time. I then discovered that UVA rays pass through windows and permanently expose our skin. Looking for effective, elegant protection, without controversial filters and above all easy to reapply during the day, I found nothing. So I decided to create it.
Substance Of Light® was born from a personal need that became a mission: to make sun protection a daily habit. Because protecting your skin goes far beyond aesthetics—it's a real public health issue.
It all started in a food truck…
On April 27, 2024, while pitching Substance Of Light® in a food truck, I never imagined I would be spotted by two journalists looking for nuggets for Who Wants to Be My Partner (QVEMA) . Three days after winning the regional final of the French Tech x Maddyness competition, I was on the front page of several media outlets… and received an unexpected call.
A journalist, intrigued by our potential, was surprised by our still modest turnover – logical, we had just launched Substance Of Light® and our TRUE FILTER™ protective mist on April 1, 2024 ! Two weeks later, another journalist contacted us to ask us to participate… but we were already on our way to the adventure.
A video that makes you want to…
We were officially in the running! To validate our application, we had to create a powerful video in just a few days. We gave it our all to show why Substance Of Light® and our sun mist deserved their place, after three years of research and development .
Among 5,000 applications , we reached a new milestone: 90% chance of being selected for season 5 of QVEMA – but nothing was yet decided, even after filming...
The whole team was ready to take on the challenge.
The preparation...
A real marathon began: refining our pitch, preparing our business plan, answering more than 70 questions , imagining the scenography...
The production team found our first pitch too serious and asked us to be more light-hearted, even a touch of humor—a challenge, given that we were talking about public health ! We then decided to focus our message on a little-known scourge: blue light , against which our TRUE FILTER™ protective mist offers effective protection.
The day of filming
That's it, we're on the QVEMA set ! Arriving four hours early, we're busy filming, hair, makeup, dressing, and rehearsals. Clara has chosen to surround herself with her loved ones, those who have supported her since day one.
Introducing a sun mist in February was a bold move, but for Substance Of Light® , protection against UV and blue light is an everyday action, all year round!
Everything is going well on stage, even though, just before, I am advised not to enter into conflict with the jury and to let them speak . Result? I hesitate to defend myself… Fortunately, Eric Larchevêque intervenes and sets things straight (sorry, Jean-Marc 😉).
Perhaps one small regret: I would have loved for Kelly to test the TRUE FILTER™ protective mist , to prove that it sets makeup while protecting and hydrating the skin!
